Tampons were taxed as luxury items. Viagra and Rogaine were not. Those were somehow deemed “essential.” To anyone paying attention, the contradiction was obvious.

With the global nonprofit PERIOD., dedicated to ending period poverty and advancing menstrual equity, we made the hypocrisy impossible to ignore. We said it out loud until ignoring it became the embarrassment.

Michigan repealed the tampon tax. Other states followed. And the system got a little less rigged.
